چکیده

2.3. Solution Assembly simulations and ergonomical studies are major fields for Virtual and Augmented Reality in industry. Both applications require direct object manipulation as the essential interaction method. Finger tracking is a tool, which allows to recognize finger positions without disturbing gloves and cables. Active markers allow to solve both the size and robustness problem: passive markers need a certain minimal size to reflect enough light back to the camera, where active markers produce their own light and thus can be much smaller. Furthermore, the performance of active markers does not significantly degrade when being soiled with fat. CR Categories: H.5.1 [Multimedia Information Systems]: Artificial, augmented, and virtual realities; H.5.2 [User Interfaces]: Interaction styles, Haptic I/O; I.3.1 [Hardware Architecture]: Input devices; J.6 [Computer-aided Engineering]: Computer-aided Manufacturing Therefore, a design with active markers was chosen. Active markers require a power supply. Power-efficient active markers have to be stroked instead of continuously driven, thus needing synchronization with the cameras. Highly efficient lightweight rechargeable batteries, available from digital cameras and mobile phones, and IR synchronization can be used to still maintain the usability requirements.

Inverse Kinematic Infrared Optical Finger Tracking

Human hand and finger tracking is an important input modality for both virtual and augmented reality. We present a novel device that overcomes the disadvantages of current glove-based or visionbased solutions by using inverse-kinematic models of the human hand. The fingertips are tracked by an optical infrared tracking system and the pose of the phalanxes is calculated from the known anatomy of...

Finger Tracking for Interaction in Augmented Environments

Optical tracking systems allow three-dimensional input for virtual environment applications with high precision and without annoying cables. Spontaneous and intuitive interaction is possible through gestures. In this paper, we present a finger tracker that allows gestural interaction and is simple, cheap, fast, robust against occlusion and accurate. It is based on a marked glove, a stereoscopic...

Wearable Haptic Glove with McKibben Actuators and Optical Tracking for Virtual Environments

For touching and manipulating objects in virtual environments conveniently, wearable haptic interfaces are required. In this paper, a concept of combining a McKibben pneumatic muscle based wearable haptic glove with an optical hand tracking system is presented. Dynamic characteristics of the muscle are measured as well as the static accuracy of the tracking system. The results are discussed, an...

Estimation of hand preshaping during human grasping.

A new method for evaluating hand preshaping during reaching-to-grasp movement is proposed. The method makes use of all five fingers in estimation of prehension. The investigation was performed on six healthy subjects grasping three different objects at various positions and orientations. The objects were presented to the subjects by means of a robot, which also induced perturbations in both obj...

Dynamic modeling and control of a 4 DOF robotic finger using adaptive-robust and adaptive-neural controllers

In this research, first, kinematic and dynamic equations of a 4-DOF 3-link robotic finger are derived using Denavit-Hartenberg convention and Lagrange’s formulation. To model the muscles, several springs and dampers are placed between the finger links. Then, two advanced controllers, namely adaptive-robust and adaptive-neural, which can control the robotic finger in presence of parametric uncer...
